AS400 vs Win2k - easy decision for us ~Gus Chukikonyoni 23.Jan.04 03:34 AM a Web browser General All ReleasesAll Platforms
In our case the decision was easy.
We've be running our ERP systems (sales, accounting, warehouse inventory, payroll, basically the whole company) on an AS/400 (iSeries) for years already and our lease was running out. A new +$400K fast iSeries machine was being installed anyway. This machine had tons of capacity and we already had all the AS/400 admins/programmers and support systems like backup (whole system in 2 hours) so we went for it. Generally, the system runs and runs and we forget about it. If we ever have a major disaster, we'll are guaranteed to be running everything on a replacement AS/400 in hours. As you can see, we've bought big time into the IBM server consolidation strategy. Also, we make extensive use of DECS, LC LSX, and DCR's talking to the DB2 UDB data on the same box which is dead easy with everything together.
